A day or two ago, I made a big map of a project that I'm working on. I did it on a sheet of Tyvek building paper--the stuff they wrap houses in before the siding and roof goes on--with a Sharpie pen. It works really well--I strongly recommend it as a way to organize large amounts of information, since you can just keep unrolling more paper as you go. Then I took a digital camera photo of the thing, stuck it on my computer, and emailed it to my coworkers. That done, I dropped the map itself (all 4' x 5' of it) next to my filing cabinet to be filed later and went on to other things.

Tonight, I needed to reference some information that was on that map. So, I dug around my hard drive for a minute or so until I found the picture, loaded it into an image editor, and blew it up to a size where I could read the writing.

Only after that was done did it occur to me that I could have just bent over and picked up the actual map, lying right there.
