About a month ago, I finally gave in and bought an iPhone.  I'm very happy with it and it's been a real quantum leap for me, having full web access, email, note-taking, navigation, and a good camera in my pocket at all times.

One of the reasons that I got it was so that I could do some iPhone development--this is a moderately in-demand skill at the moment and is likely to become more so as time goes on.  It's an ideal platform for a solo developer--Apple takes care of all of the distribution and much of the infrastructure and all you have to do is write the app.  Plus we've all heard about the guy who made $600k net from his iPhone app--that's quite a brass ring to reach for.  So, what the heck, I figured I'd give it a shot.

Here's what I've learned so far:

All in all, I'm surprised at how bad the process is reported as being.  I'm just getting into it myself and have not hit most of these issues personally, but if half of this is true, it's really not the level of quality I expected from Apple.

[Edit:  Sorry, thought I'd cut-tagged the bullet list when I originally posted this. Fixed now.]

I made a plan for "today" (May 6), made a list, the whole nine.  It was a fairly simple plan:  work out, set up one of the bookshelves, a few other things.  One of the simplest items on it was "be in bed by midnight"--my schedule's been drifting, and I'm trying to control that.

Oops.  Oh well; time for bed, I guess.

We've probably all seen those books and newspaper articles on "how to have a beautiful home in nine easy steps!"   Yeah, well, this isn't one of those.  However, there are three tricks I have learned in my life (one of which I just figured out yesterday) which make certain tough cleaning jobs a complete breeze. so I thought I'd pass them on:
Howto: clean pots/pans ; clean glassware ; clean shower corners ... )

Exactly a month ago today, I bought an iPhone, dumped Verizon, and switched to AT&T. One of the prime reasons for this was to do development on it. (I mentioned this in an earlier post.) So, here are my experiences with iPhone development in soft real time. I figure this will be useful to future iPhone development newbies, and is likely to be staggeringly dull to anyone else. If you are in the latter group and you follow my journal, send me an email or LJ message and I'll filter you off these posts.

At the end of the above process I was looking at my stub application running on my actual iPhone. Huzzah!  I think I'm going to say "made the shot" and knock off for the night on a high note.
