If I were to write a Mary Sue, he would be:

  • In shape
    • He could run at least an 8 minute mile for at least 2 miles
    • He could do 20 pushups in 1 minute with proper form
    • He could run down and then up 15 flights of stairs without being blown

  • Entrepreneurial
    • He would have a concept, a way to make money at it, and a plausible business plan that explained the two
    • He would spend a significant fraction of his time actively iterating the business plan or following its direction
    • He would be a member of at least two NYC entrepreneur groups
    • He would be actively networking by attending at least one group event every fortnight

  • Informed
    • Every day he would read several news sources that together covered the political spectrum
    • He would follow various significant tech- and business-related blogs and participate in the discussion on sites where it was useful to do so

  • Building cred by giving back to the community
    • At least once a month, he would write an essay, release some FOSS code, etc

  • Tidy
    • His apartment would be orderly and clean to a degree that he could have a stranger over without needing to clean first

  • Of course, he'd also speak twelve languages including ASL, dance like Fred Astaire, be a shidan in aikido, be a trained sniper, own a Barrett rifle, be a world-class handgun expert, climb the Empire State Building on lunch hour for kicks, have multiple Ph.D's in the hard sciences, and blah blah blah. But none of that is stuff that I want badly enough to spend the effort on. The items above, I do care about enough to pursue.

The things in the bullet list above, therefore, are the things that I'm going to Carrot and Stick myself towards.
